It seems that having received Paul’s first letter, the Thessalonian church fell into even more confusion regarding the last things. Some, incredibly, seem to have come to the conclusion (perhaps based on a counterfeit letter from the apostle) that Jesus had already returned and they had somehow missed it. So Paul takes up the pen again (in the letter we call 2nd Thessalonians) to correct misunderstandings and to reassure the Thessalonians that, indeed, Jesus has not yet returned. The Man of Lawlessness must first come, he tells them, and this has not happened. This morning at 9:05am eastern we’ll begin our study of this second letter.
